Become Physically Energized

Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead: The Healing Power Within

Sometimes, the most powerful journeys don’t begin on mountain tops or in sacred temples—they begin in front of a mirror.

For Joe Cross, that moment came when he looked at his reflection and saw a man he no longer recognized. Weighing over 310 pounds, inflamed by a debilitating autoimmune disease, and dependent on a long list of medications, Joe’s body was breaking down—and so was his spirit.

He was fat, sick, and nearly dead, and he knew it.
One foot in the grave, the other not far behind.

Doctors couldn’t offer him long-term solutions. Pills only masked the symptoms. And the lifestyle he had been living—fast food, stress, convenience—had become a slow form of self-destruction.

So Joe made a radical decision.
If the body could break down… maybe it could also heal.
And he bet his life on that belief.

A Journey of Juicing, Healing, and Hope

Armed with nothing but a juicer, a generator, and a whole lot of determination, Joe set out on a 60-day journey across the United States. No solid food. Just fresh fruit and vegetable juice—nature’s medicine.

His mission?

  • To get off his meds.
  • To lose the weight.
  • To reclaim his health.
  • And to remind his body—and his spirit—that it still had the power to heal.

Along the way, Joe spoke to over 500 Americans about food, health, and the choices we make. And while the road gave him healing, it also brought him something unexpected: connection.

At a truck stop in Arizona, Joe met Phil Staples, a truck driver who shared more than just a passing resemblance to Joe’s former self. Phil weighed in at 429 pounds, burdened by the same autoimmune condition—and emotionally exhausted.

He, too, was standing on the edge.

Two Lives. One Choice. A Shared Awakening.

Joe had already begun his transformation. Now, Phil would begin his. Inspired by Joe’s journey, Phil chose to try. And what unfolded was nothing short of extraordinary.

Two men from different walks of life—one an Aussie businessman, the other an American truck driver—each facing down the same silent killer. And each realizing the same profound truth:

The only person who can save us… is ourselves.

But they didn’t do it alone. They leaned on others. They told their stories. They invited people in. And through vulnerability and courage, they reminded us all that transformation is possible—no matter how far gone we think we are.

More Than a Documentary—A Call to Action

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead isn’t just a film. It’s a mirror.
It asks each of us:

  • What are we feeding our bodies?
  • What are we feeding our minds?
  • Are we choosing life? Or slowly stepping away from it?

Healing doesn’t require perfection. It begins with a decision. A simple choice to try. To drink a little more water. To eat something green. To move. To rest. To listen inwardly.

To believe that you’re worth saving.

Your Journey Starts Now

Joe and Phil’s stories are powerful because they remind us: it’s never too late. No matter your age, weight, diagnosis, or doubt—there is always hope.

Your body was built to heal.
Your spirit was made to rise.
And your life is too precious to spend one more day asleep at the wheel.

So wherever you are in your own journey, let this be your pep talk.
Let this be the reminder that you still have time, and more power than you think.

And maybe today is the day you look in the mirror… and begin again.
